Sanveld Safaris : Our Origin
San:
The term San, refers to the hunter-gatherer peoples of Southern Africa, whose territories used to span South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Angola and Zimbabwe. These mild mannered people are well known for their wealth of kowlegde of the wild and rock art paintings, dating back thousands of years. The San people are regarded as the "oldest" people of Africa and analyses of their blood have revealed that it contains the oldest genetic markers on Earth - making them some sort of a "genetic Adam" in Africa.
Traditionally, the San was an egalitarian society and although they did have some chiefs, their authority was limited. They instead made decisions amongst themselves by concensus with women treated as relatively equal.
The San's economy was a gift economy, based on giving each other gifts on a regular basis rather than on trading or purchasng good or services.
Veld:
The term veld, refers loosely to the open spaces in rural areas covered with grass, shrubs and trees in Southern Africa and can be interpreted litteraly as "field". In other areas of Africa it will also be known as savannas.
Safari:
The term safari, is a Swahili term that derived from Arabic, and means overland expidition, especially in Eastern Africa.
This explains the name Sanveld Safaris and will also be our geographic areas of operations for our tours and safaris.

We own two Private Nature Reserves and do understand the value of eco-tourism and nature conservation. Hence part of the profits/donations will be re-invested back into conservation and the local communities, to make it sustainable for future generations!
We have lived, worked and travelled in our areas of operation. We do understand the soul of these areas!
