Garden route

Along the Western Cape's eastern coastline lies the picturesque Garden Route, which stretches several hundred kilometres from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. This is one of the country's most popular routes and offers adventure- and leisure activities alike.

 

The Garden Route with its lush forests, pristine beaches and mountains offers adventure and leisure activities like bungi jumping (highest in Africa), zip lining through forrests, canopy tours through forests, surfing, caving at Cango Caves, whale watching, dolphin watching, bird watching, golf, elephant back rides, wine,port and oyster tastings. Highligts could be the bungi jumping, cat walk with lions, elephant feeding, elephant back rides, diving with sharks (cage diving).

 

The scenic Route 62 is a must see. Route 62 meander through hamlets like Mcgregor, Robertson, Montagu, Barrydale, Calitzdorp, Oudtshoorn, Prince Albert, George, Knysna and most scenic mountains passes like the Swartberg- and Meiringspoort.

Highlights of this route

  • The picturesque Route 62 includes awesome landscapes with winding roads through small towns each with its unique character, local produce and cuisines.

  • The Art Route in the beautiful hamlet of McGregor is a must and a stopover at a olive farm for some olive tasting and the Donkey Sanctuary is special.

  • In the quaint little town of Barrydale, you will find art such as hand weavers to pottery.

  • Calitzdorp is well known for their local port and a port tasting is not to be missed. Stock up for the trip.

  • The Ghost Walk in the hamlet of Prince Albert and the old charm and architecture of a bygone era is a must see.

  • The Swartberg- and the Meiringspoort Passes as well the Seven Passes in the Outeniqua Mountains in and around the towns of Oudsthoorn, George and Knysna are simply spectacular!

  • A stopover in Oudsthoorn and a visit to a working Ostrich farm and a visit to the Cango Caves should not be missed.

  • Birds of Eden is the largest single span aviary in the world and host approximately 3500 birds and more than 200 species.

  • There is also a couple of elephant sanctuaries in the region of which one is close to Knysna and Plettenbergbay. Here you have the opportunity to interact with these giants of the forests and be able to learn more about the behaviour of these animals – You can FEED THE ELLIES!

  • The absolute standout in this area is the CAT WALK with LIONS and an ELEPHANT RIDE in a private nature reserve on this route.

  • The coast line offers some of the best spots to do Whale- and Dolphin watching.

  • For the adrenaline junkie there is the ultimate experience to do CAGE DIVING with the GREAT WHITE SHARKS!

  • Photography: This unique area presents excellent opportunities for the avid photographer to take home a true experience to share with other family and friends.
